Sharing my love of sewing

per·plex·i·ty  (noun) \pər-‘plek-sə-tē\

the state of being perplexed, filled with uncertainty

I went through my fabric stash recently and came upon silk dupioni remnants and a chiffon evening wrap, all in beautiful earthy tones.  I’m thinking about how to combined it all into a one-of-a-kind dress.  I looked through my book on quilting patches, searched the Internet for strip quilting, and was inspired.  I was thinking a baby doll dress with a  patchwork bodice and a chiffon skirt.  However, I looked through my beads, zippers, and notions, and my creative juices are flowing.  I don’t know how this will turn out, but I am sure it will be interesting!

Okay.  I needed to de-stress so I went to my sewing space and I made two decisions regarding the dress.

1)      The dress will have an empire bodice, with princess seams and scoop necklines front and back.  The pattern is in pieces because I used a patternmaking software.  Once I taped the sheets of paper together, I drew the design lines in and narrowed the shoulders.

 2)      I’ll make flowers out of the yellowish colored silk remnant.  I cut the squares and folded them into triangles.  I’ll sew the flowers tomorrow.
I didn’t get a chance to sew this weekend since I was with family having a good time.  I did manage to make the flowers early one morning before leaving.
I started working on a creating the patchwork pieces.  I plan to cut the bodice from these pieces.  This will take a while; I am using 3″ x 3″ squares to begin the patchwork.  I cut the squares into two pieces using various diagonal lines.  I then stitch two different colors back into a “square” and then stitch the reconstructed “squares” together.

I started sewing when I was 11 years old, and had my own clients when I was 12. I graduated from the H.S. of Fashion Industries, majoring in fashion design. I expanded my technical background by attending evening classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology and working many years at a major pattern company. I have been creating custom wedding gowns and evening dresses for more years than I care to count. I LOVE WORKING WITH FABRICS. I love fine sewing techniques. I love creating beautiful dresses.
